Kansas City, MO –

  • It was still a standoff Thursday evening after an hour-and-a-half battle on the Kansas City Council floor. When the meeting adjourned, the council had not accepted a settlement in the Gloria Squitiro lawsuit and the mayor had not agreed to withdraw his suit over the ordinance that banned her from his office.
  • Senator Sam Brownback continued his opposition to moving detainees from Guantanamo Bay to Leavenworth today, joined by the city's police chief and Congresswoman-elect Lynn Jenkins.
  • Special court-appointed investigators want to fine Missouri Governor Matt Blunt, alleging he "knowingly and purposely" violated Missouri's Sunshine law by denying access to e-mails.

  • KCUR prides ourselves on bringing local journalism to the public without a paywall — ever.
