Kansas City Considers Role Of Health Care Tax

Residents of Kansas City have long financed public health, ambulance and indigent health services through a property tax which last year, brought in nearly $50 million.  Part of the tax is temporary, and a new mayor-appointed commission is taking a hard look at whether it should continue.  Find out more about the tax here.

Missouri Governor And House Leaders Negotiate On Work-Related Bills

Republican leaders in the Missouri House say they’ve been negotiating with Governor Jay Nixon (D) over the two bills he vetoed last month. The governor vetoed bills that would redefine workplace discrimination and that would place occupational disease claims solely within the workers’ compensation system.  Read more here.

Help Offered To Tornado Victims

The Kansas Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services has opened emergency offices to serve Wichita-area clients who lost food because of the tornado and power outages Saturday night. Listen to the story here.
