Favorite Love Songs: "My Guy" by Mary Wells

Continuing our series on love songs... KCUR's General Manager Patty Cahill tells how a song by Mary Wells sends her back to memories of her first love.

"My favorite long song is "My Guy" by Mary Wells," Cahill said.

"He may not be a movie star," she sings, pauses and mutters 'I wish I could sing,' then continues the tune, "but when it comes to being happy, we are."

"Other people have sung this song over the years, but this is the one that sticks. It reminds me of my first true love," Cahill said.

"We were in junior high and high school and in puppy love together. He would drive to my house to pick me up, then drive back to his house, and walk to school together, every morning. We would write notes to each other in classes throughout the day and then walk home together. When he left me in high school while he went to college, we grew apart."

"He's been married for thirty years now, not to me, and I've been married several times, never to him," Cahill said. "However, when I hear this song I remember how I felt when we were together. I've never felt that way since."
