A suspect is in custody in connection with a series of at least a dozen shootings on Kansas City highways, law enforcement officials announced Thursday night.
Three people have been injured as a result of the shootings.
Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forté said that he couldn't identify the suspect arrested in a Grandview neighborhood on East 136th Street because charges had not yet been filed, but he seemed confident that police had arrested the right man.
Forté implied that tips from citizens were in part responsible, commenting, “I can't say enough about the people in this community. Without the people in this community, we wouldn't be where we are.”
KMBC reported that multiple tips led police to an unnamed black male suspect – a partial license number, information supplied by neighbors and ballistics evidence.
Prosecutors are looking at the case file. More will be revealed at a news conference Friday.
