Green Bay Packers Player Promotes Kansas Made Products

Laura Ziegler

Good ad campaigns often have high profile spokespeople, and now so does a campaign to promote Kansas products.

The tag line is From the Land of Kansas, and this weekend Governor Sam Brownback was in Kansas City, Kansas to introduce  the  big name that will be behind this campaign - Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jordy Nelson .

Brownback said Nelson was a natural for the job.

“[He’s] an individual from the land of Kansas, grew up on a farm, went to K-State,” he said.

Nelson said he was still active in his family’s farm in Northeast Kansas, as well as a family restaurant.

Wearing a tee shirt sporting the logo "From The Land Of Kansas," Nelson said he was excited to be promoting his state and wants to help spur economic development.

“Just to be here and help bring businesses out to the public eye,” he said.

Governor Brownback talked about a successful marketing campaign with Bloomingdale's when he was Secretary of Agriculture.  He said he was looking forward to this new campaign re-energizing the Kansas brand.

Brownback also said moving the Department of Agriculture from Topeka to Manhattan would help promote  Kansas Agriculture and ag-related businesses.  Manhattan, he said, was fast becoming the state’s  hub for food related  marketing and research.

Officials gathered for the announcement Saturday morning at Original Juan’s Specialty Foods, a multi-million dollar production and distribution company on Southwest Boulevard. Juan’s promotes micro-companies and start-ups, and sells a wide variety of Kansas made BBQ, hot sauces, and salsas.
