Kansas City, MO – The ordinance setting a no family members in the office policy for volunteers made the council floor yesterday, but was delayed a week on technicalities raised by council member John Sharp.
Sharp told his colleagues: "This has been rushed through. I think it's because the sponsors want to get it passes, they've got the votes to pass it, and want to be done with it. But I think the public has the right to have meaningful input in a policy decision of this importance. And how can they have meaningful input when the final version wasn't even available till this morning?"
Mayor Funkhouser told the council he realizes he needs to do a better job of reaching out to his colleagues... and asked for the one-week extension. The call for a final vote on the ordinance fell one vote short.
