Kansas City Gets Federal Weatherization Grant

Kansas City, MO – With federal stimulus dollars becoming an endangered species, Kansas City gets a big performance-based addition to its housing weatherization program.

The council housing committee was told yesterday that a lot more money is coming. The council just has to accept the grant and designate the money for homes that need weatherizing. The city is being rewarded for quick completion of 95 percent of the work involved in the first stimulus grant.

Pat McNamara of the Housing department explained the largest of two packages.

"We got some more funding for our performance objectives through the state. And one of these ordinances is to add an additional amount of $4,250,000 to our stimulus-funded stimulus grant," said McNamara.

The other, from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources comes to $435,000. Combined, they'll weatherize at least 500 homes north and south of the river.
