Missouri lawmakers return to Jefferson City this week for the start of the 2014 legislative session.
This year's session will likely look a lot like last year’s session; there will be lots of so-called unfinished business on the minds of Republican leaders as they begin the regular session on Wednesday.
House Speaker Tim Jones says they’ll again pursue a major tax cut.
“We appropriate money every year, and we appropriate $8 billion for social services, which I’m not sure provides any measurable return on investment to the state," said Jones. "I think when you’re doing tax cuts or tax credits, you are positioning for a return on investment to the state.”
Gov. Nixon has already begun campaigning against any attempts this year to cut taxes, saying it would harm funding for both K-12 schools and higher education.
