Ambulances on Tuesday night traveled with nine people injured in the explosion and fire on the Country Club Plaza to area hospitals, including St. Luke's and University of Kansas Hospital. Six injured patients walked themselves in. Officials today provided an update on the six victims still hospitalized. At a 2 p.m. press conference, University of Kansas Hospital officials confirmed seeing a total of six patients, with injuries including burns, head injuries and cuts from flying glass. Two of these patients were transferred from other hospitals.
Dr. Michael Moncure, KU Hospital's trauma medical director, says one patient has been released. Moncure says the patients present a wide range of conditions.
"They range anywhere from individuals that may be able to be discharged within the next day to individuals that will be here for a long time," says Moncure. "And severity anywhere from cuts and lacerations and concussions to severe burns and brain injury."
St. Luke's Hospital reported seeing eight patients. Six of those patients have been released, and one remains in critical condition. The other patient was transferred to KU Hospital this morning after being stabilized.
