Has this Kansas City sales tax been a 'total failure'?

Kansas City’s Central City Economic Development program, started in 2017, is set to be renewed soon. The sales tax was supposed to help revive neighborhoods east of The Paseo — but critics say it hasn't done much of anything.

A Kansas City sales tax approved in 2017 to support development east of The Paseo has brought in close to $70 million, but some critics of the program say it isn’t working as effectively as it should.

Nomin Ujiyediin sat down with KCUR’s local government reporter Celisa Calacal and Flatland reporter Mike Sherry to understand what’s going on and what’s at stake.
