Missouri Legislature's Hot-Button Issues

Things have been heating up in Jefferson City during this legislative session

On Friday's Up to DateMissouri state senators Jolie Justus (D-10th District) and Will Kraus (R-8th District) will join Steve Kraske to discuss the plan to combine income tax cuts with hikes in sales taxes, as well as resistance to Medicaid expansion, even with Gov. Jay Nixon's assurances of federal funding.

She was elected to the Missouri State Senate in 2006 and is the Assistant Minority Leader and Ranking Democrat on the Judiciary and Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee. Justus represents Kansas City and Grandview and currently serves as the Director of Pro Bono Services for the law firm of Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP. Will Kraus is a Missouri State Senator for District 8. He was elected to the Missouri State Senate after previously being elected to the  Missouri House of Representatives in 2004. He served in the U. S. Army and has a B.S. from Central Missouri State University. Kraus has won awards such as the VFW Legislator of the Year and the “A Better Missouri for Children Award” from the Missouri PTA.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities. I try to ask the questions that listeners want answered about the day’s most pressing issues and provide a place for residents to engage directly with newsmakers. Reach me at steve@kcur.org or on Twitter @stevekraske.
