Chiefs Start Out Season With 26-10 Loss To Titans

It wasn’t until Nov. 17 last year when the Kansas City Chiefs lost their first game of the season. But this year is a different story.

The Tennessee Titans, with a handful of former Chiefs, players knocked off the Chiefs, 26-10. It isn’t a good sign for the Kansas City Chiefs when fans leaving after the third quarter chanted, “Let’s go Royals.”

But after three quarters the Titans led, 20-3, which prompted Chiefs fans to think about something else. Adding salt to the Chiefs wounds was kicker Ryan Succup kicking his third and fourth field goals of the day in the fourth quarter a week after the Chiefs released him.

“It was an awesome day obviously,” said Succop. “It was great to come back to Kansas City.”

The biggest impact was the loss of two Chiefs defensive starters, Derrick Johnson and Mike DeVito, each with ruptured Achilles tendons which will finish them for the year and perhaps even their careers.

Sports have an economic and social impact on our community and, as a sports reporter, I go beyond the scores and statistics. I also bring the human element to the sports figures who have a hand in shaping the future of not only their respective teams but our town. Reach me at gregechlin@aol.com.
