The Kansas City Royals learned Thursday the extent of the injury to All-Star outfielder Alex Gordon.

It’s labeled a “two-plus groin strain,” which means Alex Gordon is out for at least eight weeks.

The Wednesday night injury drew a strong reaction from fans.

Royals Manager Ned Yost didn’t minimize the blow to his team.

“Every player on our team looks up to Alex Gordon,” Yost said. “He provides that very quiet leadership and that confidence. Everybody in that locker room knows what he means to this team, this organization and this city.”

Before the series finale against Tampa Bay, Gordon’s All-Star game replacement was undetermined.
