The University of Kansas is rebuilding its football stadium and creating an almost billion-dollar Gateway District. The project is straining revenues for the university.

After a successful summer hosting Algeria during the World Cup, KU’s athletics department has been hustling to get ready for the Union Jack Classic. It's the first-ever college football game at the legendary Wembley Stadium, and required shipping equipment and band instruments over on a boat.

Algeria's stay in Lawrence put the University of Kansas on the map for an international audience. KU is working to leverage that awareness to increase enrollment.

University and Athletics officials said the new stadium and surrounding facilities, which they're calling the Gateway District, would transform campus and drive economic development in Lawrence. It's projected to open for the 2025 season.
