The Techsperts: Cut Your Cable TV?

Roku 2 Internet TV box
Roku 2 Internet TV box

A recent study shows that 9% of U.S. cable subscribers dropped their cable TV subscription in 2011. Why? Perhaps some of them did so because of the economy, but more did so because they're able to get their favorite TV shows through the Internet - on their schedule.

Monday on Up to Date the Techsperts, Dustin Jacobsen and Justin Parlette, discuss cutting cable TV from diet and replacing it with an Internet TV box like Roku or Apple TV.  They'll also examine rumors of the rumored-to-be-announced iPad 3, and highlight some of the top gadgets from this year's Consumer Electronics Show.

Questions or comments for our Techsperts? You can post on this page or on KCUR's Facebook page, email uptodate@kcur.org, or Tweet us @KCURUptoDate.

Dustin Jacobsen, vice president of Social Media and Technology at Barkley, leads the agency on interactive, mobile, social and emerging technology projects. Jacobsen holds a BS from Iowa State University and an MBA, magna cum laude, from Baker University. He blogs about all things marketing and technology at ShakeGently.com and is on Twitter at @dustinj. Justin Parlette, support systems administrator at University of Missouri - Kansas City, is an Apple Certified Technician who provides support and advice to staff and faculty on campus, with an emphasis on Apple technology. Parlette is also the founder of Happy Underground Films, LLC, which has released the first season of the critically acclaimed webseries DEAD WAIT. The second season is currently in production and is expected to be released this year. Follow Parlette's adventures on Twitter -- just look for @jpar0.
