Visitors this weekend will have one of their first chances to take a look inside the new $13 million Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art at Johnson County Community College before the public opening next weekend. KCUR's Laura Spencer reports. By Laura Spencer

Kansas City, MO – The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art hosts a sold-out fundraising gala on Saturday. And with funds from Terri and Marti Oppenheimer about 40 artists from around the country and Kansas City with works on display are also expected to attend. The Nerman family of Leawood helped found the museum with a lead gift of $1.5 million and the Oppenheimers contributed more than $750,000 for acquisitions in the last few years. Designed by architect Kyu Sung Woo, the Nerman has a permanent collection of more than 700 works and will present 16 special exhibitions a year. It officially opens to the public on Saturday, October 27. Laura Spencer, KCUR News.
