Sprint Nextel Taps Dan Hesse as CEO

By Maria Carter and Steve Bell

Kansas City, MO – Two months after the ouster of Gary Forsee, Sprint Nextel's board has chosen a new CEO. Dan Hesse headed A-T-and-T's wireless division in the late 90s and most recently ran Sprint's local telephone spinoff Embarq. Sprint spokesman Miles McMillan says Hesse's past experience will help guide Sprint in the future.

Miles McMillan: "One of his legacys at AT&T Wireless was simplifying the pricing and service plans. That's a huge initiative here at Sprint to simplify the business for our customers."

Hesse said in a statement that he will review all of Sprint's operation, including recent efforts to provide wireless broadband internet service.
