KANSAS CITY, MO – Rene Syler lost her CBS anchor job, and within two weeks, made the difficult decision to have both breasts removed. Although Syler did not actually have breast cancer, both of her parents had the disease, and her breasts were showing early warning signs that the disease would strike. As a part of re-inventing herself and grappling with the impact of her surgery on her family, she wrote the book Good Enough Mother: The Perfectly Imperfect Book of Parenting. In part, the book addresses the role overload women feel in being everything to everybody and the potential impact on health.

Syler was in town recently to speak at the Black Health Care Coalition's awards dinner and KCUR's Susan Wilson caught up with her there. Wilson also spoke to Dr. Stacey Daniels-Young, President of that organization. She told KCUR about their efforts to address health care in the Kansas City area.
