Kansas City, MO –

  • A Wichita jury has rendered a guilty-on-all-counts verdict in the Scott Roeder murder case this morning. There had been little doubt about the outcome, with Roeder testifying on the stand that he killed Dr. George Tiller. Sentencing was set for March 9th.
  • The Senate Judiciary Committee today took a first step towards repealing the death penalty in Kansas, sending a repeal bill to the full Senate for debate.
  • Overland Park has announced 61 more job cuts from the city payroll in anticipation of a revenue decline of $70 million.
  • UM System President Gary Forsee has endorsed proposal for $800 million in state bonds for construction on Missouri state campuses.
