Laura Bush Speaks from the Heart

Steve Kraske talks with former First Lady Laura Bush about her new memoir "Spoken from the Heart".http://stream.publicbroadcasting.net/production/mp3/national/local-national-902834.mp3

Many in America remember former First Lady Laura Bush as a one-dimensional person - the wife of the most powerful man in the world - who for the most part shied away from the political affairs of her own or those that defined her husband's presidency.

Reporters always thought there was more to the always-composed spouse of George W. Bush - but she wouldn't allow others to peek inside. In a new autobiography, Spoken from the Heart, she talks for the first time about the dark Texas night when she - just 17 years old - drove through a stop sign and killed a high school friend in another car. She writes of her husband's much-talked about drinking problem, and of her own addiction to tobacco.

Up to Date host Steve Kraske talks with Laura Bush about her memoir, a revealing story of her place among other first ladies of her generation.
