Chiefs Fire Head Coach Todd Haley

The 37-10 blowout loss on Sunday to the New York Jets sealed Todd Haley's fate with the Kansas City Chiefs.  Late Monday morning, they announced that Haley was out.  The final straw was the loss to the Jets. It was another one-sided loss, the fifth by more than 25 points. In a written statement, Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said the team has "not made meaningful progress" and the organization felt it was "necessary to make a change."  Read more here.

McCaskill Finds $800 Million In Earmarks Despite Ban

A report issued by U. S.Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri concludes that House members circumvented a ban on earmark spending more than one hundred times.  McCaskill's report finds that the Republican Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee used tricks to allow more than 800 million dollars in earmarks be inserted in the 2012 Defense authorization bill. Chair of the Committee, Howard McKeon, has announced he will strip 700 million dollars in earmarks from the defense bill.  Find out more here.

The Brush Creek Follies History Comes Home

The Brush Creek Follies radio show came to an end in the mid '50s.  In its time, the show was one of the most popular on the radio.  Similar to the Grand Ole Opry, it reached a bigger audience than that show.  Charlie Pryor was one of the many performers on the show.  His family assumed when Pryor died in 1983 that his music died with him, but the Marr Sound Archives has preserved the music.  Alex Gordon has more here.
