UMKC Business School Breaks Ground

An addition to the UMKC  Henry W. Bloch School of Management moved closer to construction as architects put a mockup of the $32 million structure on display. The 68,000 square foot complex will cover ground that is now the chancellor’s house and a parking lot.  Read more here.

Missouri House Votes to Protect Gun Owners

Legislation that would add gun owners to the state’s list of protected minority groups has passed the Missouri House.  Under the bill, gun owners who carry their firearms with them in a lawful manner (i.e. possess a concealed-carry permit) cannot be fired, denied benefits, or otherwise discriminated against.  Find out more here.

Workplace Discrimination Bill Heads To Governor Nixon

The Missouri Senate has sent the House version of the workplace discrimination bill toGovernor Jay Nixon.  Senate Democrats spent five hours Wednesday blocking the bill before sitting down.  Today, there was no debate, only a 23 to 8 straight party-line vote. 

Opera Explores Nixon’s Visit To China

In 1972, President Richard Nixon’s visit to China, a once-demonized Communist regime, was heralded as “the week that changed the world.”  That historic week opened communication between the two countries after more than two decades of hostility. A new production of the opera, "Nixon in China," at the Lyric Opera of Kansas City explores the tensions and symbolism of that visit. Learn more here.
