Someone break open the crackers and chicken broth and get Jonathan Butler eating again.
That was the initial reaction from Jennifer Hayden in Kansas City (@Scout_Finch on Twitter) to Tim Wolfe's resignation as president from the University Of Missouri system on Monday.
Butler's hunger strike, which started last week in response to recent incidents of on-campus racism in Columbia, spiraled into a football boycott by Mizzou players and a classroom walkout by campus faculty.
Wolfe's announcement, which came Monday morning during a UM Board of Curators meeting, received widespread praise from both sides of the Show-Me-State and across the country.
Leo Morton, chancellor at University of Missouri-Kansas City, provided this statement in a community letter Monday morning during the meeting:
"This is a time when many people will have strong feelings, and a desire to give voice to those feelings," the statement read. "To our faculty, please consider using your class time today as an opportunity for dialogue on these important matters."
