More Than 100 People Will Lose Their Jobs As Edgerton, Kansas, Rail Hub Loses A Company

Tyler Silvest
Logistics Park in Edgerton, Kansas, is a rail intermodal and warehouse district where XPO Logistics maintained an operation.

A global transportation and supply chain management company is shuttering its Edgerton, Kansas, location, putting 136 people out of work.

XPO Logistics operates on about 11 acres of the 1,700-acre Logistics Park, a rail intermodal and warehouse district that has been a boon for the Edgerton economy. The district also hosts corporate giants like Amazon, UPS and a terminal of the BNSF railway.

"Our customer has decided to close its operations in Edgerton," said XPO spokesman Joseph Checkler in a statement. Checkler did not identify the customer.

Only last month, XPO's Chief Operating Officer Erik Caldwell told the Financial Times the global company was experiencing "tremendous growth," and opening an average of two warehouse facilities a week, many outside of the U.S.

The company, headquartered in Greenwich, Connecticut, is one of the world's largest providers of transportation and logistics services.

Checkler told KCUR that the employees in Edgerton were informed of the closure earlier this month and that XPO was "working to support the employees through this challenging time."
