Citadel Will Rise Renewed

Kansas City, Mo. – Waiting for the first shovelful of dirt to turn! The Kansas City City Council gives a long-awaited break to blighted parts of midtown, and an aging shopping center in the Northland.

Carefully crafted, allaying suspicions, the Citadel Plaza redevelopment can move ahead, some seven years after it was pitched. The old shopping center will be razed. Southtown Urban Life Development Tax Increment Financing plan gets the nod. Councilman Terry Riley was a driving force and says, "It's going to be a way to transform a community. It's going to provide 600 new jobs to the area. It will have a streetscape that will add to the beauty along the 63rd street corridor."

The council also approves a TIF plan to help renew Antioch Shopping Center. Building back up all but the Sears Store.
