Psychologist Treats Victims Of Priest Sex Abuse

Recent events in Kansas City have raised a new public furor about abuse by Catholic priests, but no one really knows how long the problem has been going on. According to the Survivors Network for those Abused by Priests, nearly 16,000 abuse victims have spoken out nationwide since 1950.

Some courts, like in California, are deliberating over how far back claims of abuse can be made. But for the victims, the emotional aftermath of being abused by a priest can have no expiration date.

For insight into the healing process, KCUR's Susan Wilson spoke with Lawrence Nieters, an Overland Park psychologist who works with priest abuse victims.
