Kansas City homeowners get buried in code violations

Are city code citations putting home-ownership out of reach for low-income residents? We continue our week-long series exploring housing issues in Kansas City. Plus, the chief executive at the Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City was fired recently for allegedly misusing funds — including to pay her husband and give herself a loan.

The Economic Development Corporation of Kansas City might not be a household name, but it has a lot of influence over commercial development in the city. Recently, the EDC's chief executive was fired for allegedly misusing funds. NPR’s Midwest Newsroom investigative editor, Steve Vockrodt broke that story and shares what he learned.

Plus, buying a home is a big enough challenge in Kansas City but city code citations can make it even harder for low-income people to keep their homes.
