Fourth grade students at Spring Branch Elementary in Independence, Missouri, recently dissected flowers during a science exploration on botany.

Independence was one of the first local districts to have kids return to classrooms. Apart from a Zoom outage on the first day, all seems to be going according to plan, says Superintendent Dale Herl.

Middle- and high-school students are using a hybrid model. Elementary students are going to school in-person five days a week.
