Grassroots Organizer Brings Activism To Liberal, Kansas

Courtesy of Kathleen Alonso
Liberal, Kansas resident and business owner Kathleen Alonso (above) says one reason that she began working to educate and motivate people to vote was "lack of representation for the Hispanic community."

Kathy Alonso is working to make local government look more like the community it serves.

First-time activist Alonso was surprised by the margin of loss of local Democrats in the November election. Nonetheless, the Liberal resident continues working to increase outreach, gain representation and empower people like her to vote and to run for office in the future.

When I host Up To Date each morning at 9, my aim is to engage the community in conversations about the Kansas City area’s challenges, hopes and opportunities.
