Washington is an incredibly busy place these days.
The world is holding its breath through a highly consequential geopolitical moment, waiting to see whether Israel and Iran will uphold their ceasefire. President Donald Trump, meanwhile, is pushing to get his "Big Beautiful Bill" through the Senate before July 4, but divisions within the Republican Party could complicate his wishes.
U.S. Rep. Emanuel Cleaver, a Democrat from Missouri's 5th Congressional District, told KCUR's Up To Date he believes cuts to hospital funding, SNAP benefits, and Medicaid make this bill a "deadly game (Congress is) playing with people's health."
"About 16 million Americans will lose their health care because this bill will do some financial damage to health centers like Swope Park and Rogers Health Center and nursing homes," Cleaver said. "Fifty-one-thousand people, we believe, will die from these cuts unnecessarily."
