U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill Diagnosed With Breast Cancer

McCaskill for Missouri

U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat, announced Monday she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She made the announcement on Twitter and linked to a short post on her Tumblr page.

"It's a little scary, but my prognosis is good and I expect a full recovery," McCaskill wrote. " I will be in St. Louis for the next 3 weeks receiving treatment."

She says the cancer was discovered through a routine mammogram.

In her Tumblr post, McCaskill said her staff will continue assisting Missourians, and she will post how she would have voted on missed matters on her Senate website.

McCaskill has served in the U.S. Senate since 2007.
