Kansas Governor Calls For Tax Cuts And Changes In School Funding Mechanism

At his annual State of the State address on Wednesday night, Kansas Governor Sam Brownback advocated a plan to cut taxes for roughly 1.6 million Kansans

He also outlined a plan to change the way Kansas public schools are funded, and called for the Kansas Legislature to fix the Sunflower State's state employee pension plan.

Thursday on Up to Date, Steve Kraske talks with Kansas Public Radio statehouse bureau chief Stephen Koranda and Kansas State Representative Pat Colloton about the Governor's address, and outline what the state legislature might accomplish this term.

In the second portion of today's program, Blue Valley School District superintendent Tom Trigg and Kansas City, Kansas School District Cynthia Lane discuss how a possible reformulation of the state's education funding mechanism could affect their districts.
