Kansas City, MO – Thousands of protesters with green armbands filled the streets of Iran this week. People were responding to the June 12th presidential election, in which the incumbent Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was declared the winner against opposition leader Mir Hussein Mousavi. In Kansas City some young people planned to gather on the Plaza Sunday morning to show solidarity with the people protesting in the streets of Tehran.
For a local perspective on the events in Tehran, KCUR's Susan B. Wilson spoke to Nilufar Movahedi, who hosts two radio shows on KKFI 90.1 FM called Saba: Wind of Love, for English speaking, second generation Iranians, and another show called Sayeh for Persian-speaking listeners. The shows bring a combination of music, culture, and current events to first and second generation Iranians in Kansas City. Movahedi stopped by to talk about her show and some of the reactions to the Iranian election.
