Kansas City, MO – The city council Finance and Audit Committee heard the results of Kansas City's first employee satisfaction survey since 1992 on Wednesday. Auditor Gary White read off the numbers.
Eighty-five percent of city employees are satisfied with their jobs. Seventy-five percent said the health benefits suit their needs. But the mayor and council got bad grades.
Only about a fourth of employees responding feel that the mayor and city council value the work they do for the community, make decisions based on what is best for the entire community, or are concerned about city workers and support city goals
And the icing on the cake: The majority of respondents agreed that their supervisor and department management set an example of ethical conduct, but the level of agreement dropped for top city management: the mayor and city council.
Only 18 percent said the mayor and council set a good ethics example.
The full council will hear the report next week.
