Bodine, Brooks Honored By KC Council For Decades Service In Government & Broadcasting

Two notable Kansas Citians have been honored by resolution in city hall council chambers.  Walt Bodine and Alvin Brooks were picked for singular achievements.

Both men were lauded for forms of public service, Brooks for government work and civic anti-crime fighting, Bodine for broadcasting.

The resolution congratulated Alvin Brooks on his 80th birthday.

The day was proclaimed “ Walt Bodine Day” in Kansas City upon his retirement from more than 7 decades in radio and television.  Councilwoman Melba Curls noted that Bodine was really an educator. In her words,  “I’ve learned a lot and I really appreciate all that you’ve shared with us.  I’ve also enjoyed your humor.  Good luck to you in the future and thank you for all you’ve done.”

Bodine, spoke briefly to the Council saying he’d give anything if his late mother had been able to witness the celebration.  He recently retired from KCUR-FM.
