The Kansas City Area Transportation Authority is thinking about temporarily moving some routes off Main Street in Kansas City, Mo., while streets are congested with construction.
While lower Main street is torn up as workers lay streetcar lines, it comes as no surprise to anyone moving around there that traffic is a mess. So Mark Huffer, General Manager of the ATA, says officials are thinking it may alleviate some of the congestion to move peak-time routes off Main to Grand for awhile.
Officials also will be looking at whether adding too many lines to Grand could cause more problems than it solves.
"That’s part of our study to, to make sure we don’t overwhelm the traffic lanes or stops with too many buses, but we feel pretty confident we can make that transition," Huffner says.
The 28xBlue Ridge Express, the 37xNorth Broadway express and 152 Lees Summit-Raytown Express would use Grand rather than service the 10th and Main transit stop.
The ATA will hold a public hearings next Thursday at the Central Library downtown, and take comments on their website.
