The popular gas station and travel center will be located near the Kansas Speedway. Construction is slated to start in May 2025.

Kansas City's car-racing history dates back more than a century, and carries on today at the Kansas Speedway, Flying H Drag Strip and smaller venues around the metro.

Known for its vast array of unusual snacks (brown sugar-coated, puffed corn Beaver Nuggets among the most popular) and dozens of gas pumps, the Texas-based chain has a cult-like following. The proposed site near The Legends and Kansas Speedway is now before planners with the Unified Government of Wyandotte County.

Both casinos are owned or partially owned by publicly traded Penn National Gaming Inc. of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, which said the layoffs will be permanent although the casinos will remain open.

The Kansas Speedway has anchored the enormous Village West development in Wyandotte County and helped promote tourism. COVID-19 has changed the tourism part for the foreseeable future.
