Asked about the city's approach to the multi-million dollar contract, Lucas responded "I think it was the view of the Aviation Department, and ultimately of the city council, that rather than having 20 different contracts for your bookstore, coffee shop, barbeque place, we thought it most efficient to go through the work of having a . . . prime contractor who will then work will all the parties along the way."
Also, Mayor Lucas remains firm on his stance welcoming Afghans to the city saying, "It's the sort of thing that I think is right for us to do. We should help our allies who helped us so much over the 20 years of the conflict in Afghanistan."
Before ending the conversation to head over to a police board meeting, Lucas said it would be his first face-to-face meeting with the newest commissioner, Dawn Cramer. He looks forward to working with her on core issues including fewer homicides and shootings.
