The beauty of Berg, the swans of Sibelius and a showpiece by Chopin
Nearly two-hundred years after a twenty year old Frédéric Chopin composed his first piano concerto, the work still delights. This week, we'll hear rising piano star George Li perform the piece, plus the eminent violinist Gil Shaham performs Alban Berg's melancholy concerto. We'll also hear the Kansas City Symphony in a recent performance of Jean Sibelius' swan-inspired Symphony No. 5.
'Music that points to a better future' by Mason, Danielpour, Montgomery and Schubert
In this program, we'll hear music composed by three modern American composers, each from a different generation: Quinn Mason's "Joyous Trilogy," Jessie Montgomery's "Banner" and Richard Danilepour's tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. "From the Mountaintop" featuring clarinetist Anthony McGill. To close, the Kansas City Symphony brings to life Franz Schubert's song-like "Great" C major symphony.
Elegance and enlightenment: Mozart celebration Pt. II
The birthday celebration for Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart continues with two of his piano concerti and his profound "Jupiter" symphony. Co-hosts Michael Stern and Dan Margolies explore Mozart's frame of mind during each compositional period and offer insights on performing these great works.

An orchestral exploration of music by Handel, Hailstork, Rachmaninoff and more
This week, hosts Michael Stern and Dan Margolies explore a wonderful variety of works. We'll hear an organ concerto by Handel featuring Jan Kraybill, Adolphus Hailstork's 'Baroque Suite,' alongside works by Ferruccio Busoni and David Diamond. On top of all that great music, we'll hear a recent performance of Sergei Rachmaninoff's fourth piano concerto featuring pianist Conrad Tao.
Honor And Celebration
This week features highlights from two recent Memorial Day concerts by the Kansas City Symphony at Union Station. The concerts feature fanfares, patriotic marches, a sing-a-long, Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture, fireworks and a rendition of "Amazing Grace" sung by former Kansas City Mayor Sly James. We’ll also hear powerful remembrances honoring members of the Armed Services from Kansas City Symphony Music Director Michael Stern and Jim Birdsall.
A panoply of Prokofiev plus Beethoven's 'prosperous voyage'
Celebrate the birthday of Sergei Prokofiev by listening to the Kansas City Symphony perform three of his works: the invigorating suite from "Love of Three Oranges," his third piano concerto and an epic cantata comprised of music from his score to the Sergei Eisenstein film "Alexander Nevsky." We'll also hear Beethoven's portentous tone poem "Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage."
