Mahler's "Titan" and a celebration of Mozart
This week, the Kansas City Symphony on Classical KC continues to celebrate the January birthday of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart by showcasing his "Concerto for Piano No. 23" in a performance from Orion Weiss under the direction of the late Bramwell Tovey. You'll also hear Mozart's "Concerto No. 1 for Flute" featuring the Kansas City Symphony's principal flutist, Michael Gordon. The program will close with a recent performance of Gustav Mahler's "Symphony No. 1," which marked the orchestra's full scale return to Helzberg Hall following pandemic restrictions.
Britten's orchestra and Hindemith's metamorphosis
Michael Stern and Dan Margolies celebrate the November birthdays of Paul Hindemith and Benjamin Britten. We'll hear three works from Britten including the ever popular "Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra," as well as Hindemith's "Symphonic Metamorphosis" and "Les preludes" by Franz Liszt.

This week, we begin a month long birthday celebration of Peter Tchaikovsky. We'll hear the Kansas City Symphony perform Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 3 and Symphony No. 5, plus Franz Joseph Haydn's "Overture to 'The Creation.'" Michael Stern and Dan Margolies celebrate the birthday of Richard Strauss and explore his musical life. We'll hear early works such as "Also Sprach Zarathustra" and "Don Juan," plus later works like the "Suite from 'Der Rosenkavalier'" and his moving "Four Last Songs."
A celebration of George Walker and Robert Schumann
This week, co-hosts Michael Stern and Dan Margolies celebrate the birthdays of Robert Schumann and George Walker. We'll hear Walker's "Lyric for Strings:" a moving tribute to his mother, who had been enslaved.
