Kansas City opened its doors to thousands of international visitors during the World Cup. What kind of impressions did we make?

During Kansas City’s time co-hosting the FIFA World Cup, more than 400,000 fans from more than 170 different countries attended matches or the Fan Festival. Some of those visitors from other countries shared their impressions with the National WWI Museum and Memorial.

Work crews were up early Sunday morning clearing away Fan Fest from the grounds of the National WWI Museum and Memorial in Kansas City. The city hosted its final World Cup match on Saturday, when Argentina defeated Switzerland.

The FBI said the local and state drone task force has detected 14 illegal flights in just the first week of World Cup festivities in Kansas City.

Visitors can explore a range of foods from around the globe when they visit the free FIFA Fan Festival on the grounds of the National WWI Museum and Memorial — but Kansas City food takes center stage.

Beginning June 11, the ConnectKC26 shuttles will connect key World Cup destinations like the airport and stadium to a central bus mall at 27th Street and Grand Boulevard, near the Fan Festival.

Residents and visitors can get in the World Cup spirit with these six soccer-themed exhibitions at museums, galleries and institutions across the area.

Gloria Jackson-Leathers launched the Kansas City Civic Engagement Initiative, which provided after-school programs and funded many museums, helped created the Maker Faire at Union Station and led the development of the KC STEM Alliance.

Just weeks before thousands of fans from around the world celebrate the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the lawn of the National WWI Museum and Memorial, local organizers and security partners gathered there to practice responding to emergencies.

Kansas City fans can now register for tickets to the FIFA Fan Festival at the National WWI Museum and Memorial, which will host viewings and entertainment during the World Cup. The majority will be general admission and free, but capacity is limited.

In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, Kansas Citians can view some of the nation’s founding documents like Declaration of Independence and Treaty of Paris. Beginning Friday, the Freedom Plane National Tour will put the artifacts on display at the National World War I Museum and Memorial.
