This week, top Republican lawmakers in Kansas announced that they had reached out to the Chiefs organization to urge the team to consider moving across the state line. The leading candidates to be Missouri’s next governor are split on whether the state should offer incentives to keep the team where it is.

John Rizzo, who has served as the Missouri Senate Minority Leader since 2021, will pivot to a new role overseeing the Kansas City Chiefs and Royals stadiums complex.

If Jackson County voters feel conflicted about the April 2 stadium sales tax vote to help finance a new downtown ballpark for the Royals and Arrowhead Stadium improvements for the Chiefs, they can be confident in this: political fights over stadiums is a local tradition that goes back at least 93 years.

Despite a historically bad season on the baseball field, fans are more focused on the team's impending move to a new stadium in either downtown or North Kansas City. Many of them are unifying over what will be lost when the Royals change zip codes.

Royals leaders have released renderings of their much anticipated new stadium, although they have yet to announce the final location for the $2 billion project. Kansas City-area residents aren't all convinced they should be the ones to pay for a move, especially because the team is on the verge of the franchise's worst season in history.
